READY TO SAIL - JUNE 3, 2011

CCGS Hudson June 3, 2011
Today, science staff endured a thorough Coast Guard orientation aboard the CCGS Hudson.  During this tour of the ship, science staff were shown safety videos and were given an overview of all of the ship's safety and day to day features.  The Hudson is a wonderful ship with a storied past of oceanographic research.  To read more about the Hudson visit her Wiki.

As part of the orientation, Science Staff are shown the proper way to prepare for emergency evacuation of the ship by the Coast Guard Staff.  Safety is always the highest priority at sea.

The end of a wonderful day in the HRM

As a beautiful day in Halifax comes to a close, we can begin to think about tomorrow morning when we plan to depart around 8 am to perform gear trials in Bedford Basin.  During the mission, we'll rely heavily on 2 pieces of bottom imaging/sampling gear, Campod and Videograb.  If all goes well with gear trials in the Basin, then we hope to be at our first location in Emerald Basin before the end of the day tomorrow.

Please stay tuned for updates on our progress and thanks for your visit!
